Hazmat Shipping or Shipping Hazardous Materials

HAZMAT SHIPPING 

Hazmat is an abbreviation for hazardous materials and refers to any item or agent (biological, chemical and physical) which has the potential to cause harm to humans, animals or the environment, either by itself or through interaction with other factors. For Air shipping, the most encountered hazardous materials we experience are perfumes and most items containing alcohols.

Hazmat shipping requires special packaging and extra documentation, therefore it is charged at a slightly higher rate than normal cargo.

The cost for any hazardous shipment includes a mandatory UN fee ($100) for each class of item. To avoid this charge been levied on each customer it is our practice to consolidate and group packages of hazardous shipments from multiple individuals as a single unit when delivering to the Airlines. This way, the UN fee is spread out among numerous customers. However, depending on the size of the shipment, the items can be shipped off immediately based on the customer’s request. All hazardous shipments incur a 25% surcharge to compensate for the higher shipping cost and to cover the mandatory UN fee. The average time for shipping perfumes is hence normally 2 to 3 weeks after it’s received, but may be longer if we don't receive enough quantities to distribute this charge evenly.
